Security & Privacy Review
The app is good, and the router is great. However, setup was difficult and not as straightforward as it appeared. The app doesn't work at all set up the router on its own. You have to plug the router into another router that already has Wi-Fi set up. Then you can set up Wi-Fi for the new router, and then you can plug the new router in directly. Very convoluted. The support section of the website is very confusing. I guess they have a bunch of other IT products they're trying to sell you.
The app has developed into something quite fantastic over the humble beginnings, and is critical for my home network management as well as day-to-day customer network management. It warrants 5 stars. But it will only get 3, because standalone setup is now buried and deliberately difficult. And that's knowing what I'm looking for. Walking someone else through it over the phone? Forget it. C'mon guys. Standalone shouldn't be this hard to setup/manage.
At the time of writing this, there appears to be no way to set up a u7 pro as standalone. After much fuss, trying different firmware, and allot of hair pulling and factory resetting, I discovered that the issue is the android version of the app. Fix this please. When using an iPhone, standalone setup was much easier. Hope this helps someone out there. Fold 4.
I've been using the Unifi app to manage my network, and it's been a great experience. Setting up E7 Hotspots and the Dream Machine was super easy—just a few steps in the app, and everything was up and running without any hassle. What I really like is how much control I have from my phone. The app lets me monitor devices, tweak security settings, and even manage guest networks on the fly. There are plenty of advanced options too, but the interface makes everything easy to navigate.
Ubiquiti software has always been and still is the worst software of any major manufacture. You can always... ALWAYS... expect to spend 3 times as much valuable time configuring their devices than you would those of other manufactures. Unfortunately, their prices are better, so you just have to bite the bullet and waste your time on their convoluted system. I've been configuring these AP's for 6 or 7 years and it's always the same! Once configured, they work great. Just expect to waste your time!
