The saved stories feature would be much more useful if it actually saved the content on your device instead of just adding the article to a list. This is true for both my Android and my iPad. After I save an article, even if I've begun reading it and it's fully loaded onto my device, if I try to read it later on a flight in airplane mode, it's unavailable because it can't load up. Currently the app has 1.3GB cached on my phone, so how can none of that include articles I saved for later?
Have been having an issue over the last week when I try to open an article, I get an error message to open the browser console or something. Since yesterday, now the app won't open at all. Android says the app has a bug. Unusable. Update: updated the app and restarted my phone and the app seems to be working again. 3* now because of ads in podcasts and the fact that they canceled The Roundtable, their best podcast. Strongly considering not renewing when my subscription runs out.
Running most recent version 13.122 on Android. I am somewhat frustrated by the huge volume of push notifications I receive, even though in the settings I have all the categories of notification set to 'off'. I do not want to block all notifications, as I do wish to receive scores and notices about the teams I follow. As an example, I get a push reminder each day about Sports Connections, even though this option is set off. Today I received a notification about Brady Tkachuk and a video.
I have been a day one Athletic subscriber, and I visit the vertical daily. I like supporting the writers, and it is has made me feel more connected to my favorite sports teams. With that said, a bug has severely hampered my ability to read articles, and I'm ready to cancel my subscription. In the app, nearly every article randomly cuts off the text halfway through the story. And the browser version of articles act like I don't have a subscription half the time. Customer service is non-existent.
I'm a big fan of The Athletic, especially the football (soccer) content, which I enjoy a lot. I listen to most of their podcasts, but I've had a tough time doing so on the website. The podcasts often stop randomly, forcing me to refresh the page and manually find where I left off. It's frustrating and disrupts the experience. The podcasts work better on Spotify, but there I have to deal with ads since it's not synced with my Athletic account. If this issue could be fixed, that would be great.
