It's not terrible but it's not great either. It functions as intended, but. It does badger you to promote which costs a mint (although its entirely optional) but the biggest problem. It's barren. NO ONE is using it, there's one ad in a hundred mile radius. Not one search result, there is a single advert in the radius that I didn't put there myself. And the audience is similarly scarce. A buying and selling app with no buyers or sellers, you got to increase the user base or it's simply unusable.
there's no point having a location and radius setting when it's ignored. "in your area" is full of items 100+ miles from the set location. search results show items 10+ miles away even when the radius is set to within 1 mile. and that's even before the "more you may like" starts. they seem to care more about pushing sales and making money from ad promotions, than actually making the app usable. facebook marketplace has its own flaws. but my god, it's far superior to gumtree at this point.
it's a ghost town. gumtree is desperately trying to generate some money with paid for extras. it's annoying and makes the UI messy. this is why most people have left. that's a big problem for a selling site. if there's no shoppers left then there's no one to buy your stuff. I hate to say it but gumtree has come to the end of the line. if you have to pay for the extras to get your ads seen then just go to eBay. thousands will see your ads rather than tens
It's dead, it's like walking into an empty shop. I think it could be because people are lazy and just sell on Facebook instead as they're already on there instead of using a separate app. I like gumtree but there's never anything I'm searching for anymore. unless I've already got everything a man could want, but I seriously don't think it's that
I have made four purchases on gumtree in the last month. Every single one of them cancelled because the sellers listed their items with delivery, but then have ghosted me, or diddnt actually want to post the item. What's the point of a buy and sell app where sellers don't understand that delivery means they need to post an item. Also no way to review sellers where they don't respond to messages or don't dispatch a sold item. Will be going back to Vinted!
